Despite sharing the same geographical region and often relying on similar resources for livelihoods, they are frequently excluded from decision-making processes and sometimes denied access to other essential resources. This marginalization perpetuates socio-economic disparities, with the Lmartin people facing unequal opportunities for education, healthcare, employment and political representation compared to our larger neighbors. This means they have stopped practicing their traditional customs, rituals, and language, and instead adopted those of the Samburu people. This shift often occurs because the dominant culture imposes its practices and beliefs on the smaller community, leading individuals to feel pressured to conform in order to be accepted or to avoid discrimination. These raids involve armed groups from the Pokot and Samburu coming into Lmartin territory and stealing their cattle, which is has been our main source of wealth and livelihood. The raids often result in violence, loss of lives, and destruction of property creating fear and instability among us. Insecurity disrupts daily life, hampers economic activities, and undermines efforts to build a peaceful coexistence among the different communities in the region. Women are killed while fetching firewood. Children are left behind with no one to look after them. Increased rape case some which goes un reported.
